History

Ghidini is an Italian company born in 1974 founded by Gianpietro Ghidini. In a few years Ghidini specialized in the design and production of technical lighting fixtures for outdoor use. Throughout its history Ghidini has focused its research on the development of a wide range of products that meet the highest expectations of designers, helping to enhance residential or commercial environments through a design that integrates harmoniously into the most varied design contexts. The products are built using materials and components of the highest level that guarantee reliability and efficiency over time.

Lucitalia Milano was born in 1966 as "interior lighting LIGHTS" and quickly established itself as one of the most original and innovative manufacturers of modern design products. LUCI's notoriety rises internationally with the creation in 1983 of the Kandido table lamp created in collaboration with Ferdinand Alexander Porsche.

Over time, Ghidini & Lucitalia's collaboration with internationally prestigious designers has always been growing and today it includes names such as: Gianfranco Frattini, Adonis, Ignazio Caltha, Toshiyuki Kita, Rodolfo Bonetto Rio, Flu, Todo; Giugiaro Design, Asahara Sigeaki, Francesco Brivio, Carlo Fassina and Giancarlo Forcolini, Serge & Robert Cornelissen, Gabi Peretto, Margarita Kroucharska, Gianni Forcolini, Maurizio Parrini.

In 2012 the two companies are acquired. In 2018 Lucitalia was incorporated into Ghidini Lighting which keeps its brand identity active. The union of the two companies allows designers to be able to use a single interlocutor in the development of their projects both in outdoor and indoor environments.

Research & Development

The Ghidini and Lucitalia Research & Development department is based on product development processes tested over 50 years of experience and is supported by the use of advanced 3D software and simulation and by an internal laboratory equipped with the most modern systems for carrying out tests for lighting fixtures in compliance with European regulatory standards (EN 60598-1).

The laboratory allows to perform tests of resistance to humidity and water tightness (IP), mechanical impact resistance tests (IK), heating and endurance test in a thermo-regulated chamber, EMC electromagnetic compatibility test and all other minor tests required by the standard.

The laboratory is equipped of a goniophotometer capable of satisfying the most demanding international standards in the field of photometric measurements and is perfectly compliant with UNI EN 13032-1. The device is equipped with a new angular colorimetric function that allows it to become a real goniocolorimeter that allows the measurement of color coordinates and color temperature in degrees Kelvin. The goniophotometer is equipped with double measurement: for LEDs and for other sources.

Production

Made in Italy
Ghidini and Lucitalia production is completely carried out in Italy. Ghidini and Lucitalia use selected materials and components of the highest quality in their products to ensure long operation and durability.

The painting process is based on years of research and experience to protect the lighting fixtures and make them withstand various climatic conditions and the aggressiveness of atmospheric agents. The quality of the painting process is structured in multiple phases including treatment with ceramic nano-particles, epoxy powders and polyester powder painting.

The essential steps include: Alkaline Degreasing, Acid Deoxidization, Demineralized Rinsing, Nano-ceramic Conversion, Demineralized Rinsing, Drying and Painting. The "Alodine" conversion process is a process of pre-painting surfaces in aluminum, steel and galvanized material with the use of ceramic nano-particles. The ceramic nanoparticles produce a cohesive inorganic layer of great compactness, this coating constitutes an excellent base for anchoring paints ensuring, thanks to the greater adhesion surface of the paint compared to traditional phosphates, excellent adhesion and high resistance to corrosion for aluminum surfaces, galvanized and ferrous materials.

Finally, the polyester powder coating has excellent characteristics of resistance to UV rays, absence of chalking, excellent mechanical characteristics and high resistance to atmospheric agents. For installations where corrosion protection requires higher standards, a pre-treatment of epoxy powder (primer) is introduced which allows for better corrosion and abrasion resistance.
